The Do-It-Better™ Project
The very last step of the Engineering and Design Cycle is "Wash. Rinse. Repeat." This is exactly what the project was. We took a previous project from the class and, well, did it better! Our previous topics, and the ways we could improve upon them, are: Rube Goldberg (better calculations, combine with another project, make it more fun, add more), Physics of Sports (choose a different sport, pull a Rushdie*, create a better video), Hybrid Car (choose a new power source, improve upon the previous power source), Solar Design Project (create something better than what you had previously), Creative Engineering (Choose something new, or improve more on what you had previously worked on), Musical Instruments (Create a better instrument, or improve upon one), and Electronics (create more, improve upon it, combine with another project).
*Pull a Rushdie 'definition': To create something for the sake of a pun.
My group decided to pull a Rushdie with the Physics of Sports video. How? The Physics of Storks. Through this, we learned more about the physics of flight, and how much it would hurt if a stork glided into you. You can see everything in the video below.

REFLECTION:
This was my favorite project. Although it strayed (very far I might add) from the given information regarding the project, I'm glad that this idea was accepted. It was originally a Physics of Sports video, but we couldn't let such a good pun go to waste. Not to mention we actually do address physics concepts in the video. I didn't have any pits with the project, aside from the time frame. I've mentioned before that project time frames could be adjusted, and that could help the Do It Better™ Project. If we got more time to work previously, why get less when trying to improve (although I do understand the time crunch with the project being just before finals)? I can understand that my experience with this project is far different than others'. I mean, I worked on a video about storks. Nobody else did. Overall Peaks: Freedom, Fun, Creative. Pit: Time allotted. This was certainly a fun project work on, and I think that next year's freshman STEM class would enjoy it as well.
