Transitional Species Video: Missing Link
This video demonstrates a potential connection between two close phyla: Molluska and Arthropoda.
Reflection:
I learned quite a bit from this unit. I did not previously know the true definitions of the terms used in Linnaeus' system of classification, nor the individual phyla. I learned the most from the dissections, but I felt that they were tedious and there were too many. It did give us a good example of the increasing complexity of organisms and a better example of how that changes, though. I didn't make any new connections, as I have already made connections in the past. I did make a better connection of the process of evolution via mutations, however. I really enjoyed the "missing link" project, although I feel that it would be more fun to create a link between two species, not phyla. This way we could still learn about evolution, but it would be more fun and creative. It would also show the randomness of evolution, and how the Earth could actually end up with those organisms. This unit made me curious about hybrid animal species, specifically creation and ethics.
